Application Delivery: The Next Generation of
Traffic Management
|
|
As business-critical applications are deployed on the Internet, IT organizations must meet the increasing demand for non-stop application
availability with fully secure access to these applications, without adversely affecting end-user performance.
Numerous point products are available that are designed to optimize one or more aspects of delivering applications. Many of these products are
aimed at improving site capacity or end-user performance. Others are designed to protect against specific kinds of Denial of Service (DoS) or
intrusion attacks. The widespread adoption of SSL as the preferred means to ensure data security has elevated the need for point products such as
SSL accelerators to handle the encryption/decryption process.
Unfortunately, introducing one or more of these point products into a data center infrastructure increases management complexity, often degrades
application performance, and imposes a drain on ongoing operational complexity and budgets. As a result, companies cannot solve the fundamental
problem of ensuring the fully secure delivery of business-critical applications without leaving these applications and infrastructure vulnerable to
attack or without degrading end-user performance.
The Breaking News: 9000 Series of Application Delivery Systems represents the next generation in traffic management. The Breaking News:
9000 Series is the
first network infrastructure solution to combine the essential elements of application security and optimization with robust traffic management
functionality. With the Breaking News: 9000 Series, enterprises are able to provide continuous, secure delivery of business-critical applications without
compromise, while reducing operational and bandwidth costs, and simplifying network management.

Breaking News: SSL VPN: A New Standard for Secure
Remote Access:
|
|
Enterprises are increasingly being asked to provide employees and business partners access to corporate applications from outside the corporate
perimeter. Many enterprises are using IPSec VPN technology to provide this access. Though robust and secure, IPSec VPNs have significant
limitations. First and foremost, the administrative challenges in rolling out the VPN client software to hundreds or even thousands of remote
access users, as well as managing and maintaining this client software, are enormous. As a result, IT departments incur significant capital and
operational costs. In addition, IPSec VPN technology has limitations in terms of access flexibility. Given the need for client software, corporate
users cannot access key resources from alternate endpoints, and their access from sites protected by firewalls is limited or, in some cases,
nonexistent. |
SSL-based VPN technology was developed to address some of the shortcomings of IPSec. However, most SSL VPN vendors have
defined the problem too narrowly. Secure access to applications shouldn't be the end goal. Rather, the goal should be to achieve secure delivery
of applications in which remote access to the network is just one component. A complete SSL VPN solution needs to provide application-layer
protection, and a complete solution must not degrade application performance. Interoperability is also a key consideration. Most SSL VPN
implementations cannot handle applications that dynamically generate URLs (e.g. JavaScript), dynamically change ports, or that use hard-coded IP
addresses. This is a key limitation of many SSL VPN implementations that severely restricts the access to different kinds of applications by
remote users.
The secure remote access solution from Breaking News: enables enterprises to provide complete end-to-end secure access to their applications without
compromising performance or increasing costs. Its ability to accelerate secure application traffic and defend against application-level attacks,
in addition to encrypting all application content, is unique in the industry. By deploying the Breaking News: 9000 Series, enterprises can ease the
rollout and management of new applications while serving significantly more remote users and decreasing overall network complexity and cost.
